Golden Temple Also known as Harmandir Sahib, the Golden Temple is a place of great beauty and sublime peacefulness. It was built during the leadership of Fifth Guru Arjan Dev in 16th century. The temple's architecture represents a unique combination of Hindu, Muslim and European artistic styles. The Gurudwara is a beautiful golden structure at the centre of the water body. The gold plated building features the copper cupolas and white marble walls encrusted with precious stones arranged in Islamic style floral patterns. Within the structure, on a jewel studded platform lays the Adi Granth, the sacred scripture of the Sikhs. This scripture is a collection of hymns, prayers and devotional songs. Beginning early in the morning until long past sunset, these hymns are chanted to the exquisite accompaniment of instruments. The water that surrounds the Mandir is a sacred pool known as Amrit Sarovar. The temple is reached by following a Parikrama, which circumscribes the sacred pond in clockwise direction. There are 4 entrances for the temple from all 4 directions which signifies that people belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome. The Akal Takht or immortal Throne is the supreme seat of Sikh religious authority. The original copy of Granth Sahib which is kept in Golden Temple during the day is ceremoniously returned to Akal Takht at night. It also houses Guru Ka Langar, a 3 storied communal open kitchen and it provides free food to all regardless of color, creed or caste. The Gurudwara teaches lesson of egalitarianism and humanity. Pilgrims and visitors are supposed to remove their shoes at the entrance, cover their heads and wash their feet before entering the temple.

Durgiana Temple Situated outside the Lohgarh gate, Durgiana temple is a premier Hindu temple of Punjab. Depicting the bliss of Goddess Durga, the temple is also called Lakshmi Narayan Temple. This temple is also called as silver temple for its engraved silver doors. The Durgiana temple was constructed following the design aesthetics of the Golden temple. This 16th century temple is surrounded by a holy water tank. The connection with Goddess Durga is a socio cultural reference as Durga is invoked for protection and health while the soldiers go to war. Over the years, the temple has become an epicenter of Hindu renaissance and rejuvenation.
